- Description: The Integrated Executive Experiential Learning Coaching model was applied in an information technology organisation. The aim of the research was to analyse and interpret the experiences of seven executives in the form of written essays from the systems psychodynamic perspective. The manifesting themes were, experiential learning facilitates the working through of defences; interdependency facilitates taking responsibility for the self; flight reactions inhibit owning and learning; transcending defences is needed to authorise the self in role; the difficulty of moving from the paranoid-schizoid to the depressive position and valuing all parts of the self; and containment facilitates self-authorisation. Recommendations towards more effective executive coaching are presented.

Mentoring and coaching leaders in the public sector
- Authors: Erasmus, Lesley Michael

- Type: Mini-Dissertation
- Identifier: uj:8710 , http://hdl.handle.net/10210/5062
- Description: M.Comm. , Due to skills shortages brought about by various factors, the study seeks to determine and quantify the perceived importance of mentoring and coaching leaders in the workplace. For the purpose of this study, leadership and management are viewed as not being mutually exclusive. Management’s perceptions and attitudes toward skills development are also examined and various mentoring and coaching models are discussed. The scope of the research is confined to the Gauteng Department of Economic Development (GDED) and the research study is targeted at middle and senior management. The research study takes place during a period of organisational transformation within the GDED. This is a quantitative study and was undertaken by means of questionnaire design as a research instrument. Mentoring and coaching as a talent management mechanism as well as a strategy to retain skilled employees in an organisation is gaining momentum globally. As older and more experienced employees retire from the labour force, skills and knowledge transfer to younger employees becomes critical to ensure sustainability in organisations. Mentoring and coaching is thus an option to ensure that skills and knowledge are not lost due to an increasing number of workers retiring. Within the context of mentoring and coaching a number of factors are examined which could influence the mentoring and coaching experience. These factors include, but are not limited to issues around race, gender, ethnicity and cultural differences. Literature suggests that these are critical factors which influence the outcome of mentoring and coaching relationships. The perceptions around race, gender, ethnicity and cultural differences within the context of the mentoring and coaching experience are discussed and its significance is quantified in the research. The finding from the questionnaires are presented and discussed in the research study followed by recommendations and conclusions.

A systematic review of the batting backlift technique in cricket
- Authors: Noorbhai, Habib
- Date: 2020
- Subjects: Biomechanics , Performance analysis , Coaching
- Language: English
- Type: Article
- Identifier: http://hdl.handle.net/10210/455349 , uj:40298 , Citation: Noorbhai, H. 2020. A systematic review of the batting backlift technique in cricket.
- Description: Abstract: There has been an extensive amount of research into the batting elements of cricket. However, there is limited research specifically on the batting backlift technique (BBT). Therefore, this review aims to provide an understanding and consensus of the BBT in cricket at varied skilled levels. A PRISMA flow chart revealed 38 studies that were reviewed (both coaching and scientific literature), which reported on the backlift in cricket. The databases searched were PubMed, Google Scholar, the Cochrane Library and Sabinet. This review shows that the lateral batting backlift technique (LBBT) is a likely contributing factor to successful batsmanship at all levels of cricket ability (junior, adolescent, semi-professional, professional, international and former elite/successful cricketers). It was also found that coaching a LBBT to young batsmen may be challenging to teach, and therefore, further coaching models should be developed to assist cricket coaches. As much as a LBBT may be a contributing factor for success, there is still a need to answer a number of questions through further in-depth biomechanical investigations and through interventions that are more meticulous. A way forward for further research in this area of cricket batting is documented at the end of the review.
