- Description: Abstract: This paper highlights the impact that smartwarehousing has on customer satisfaction and loyalty in the foodservice industry. The study follows an exploratory approach which uses quantitative means to analyze the information collected. The high products demand in the foodservice makes the industry complex to handle as the need to satisfy the customer is a priority, thus the reason behind this study which can benefit both the concerned industry and academia. 90 respondents (60 customers and 30 warehouse employees) participated in the study where a questionnaire was given to them to collect critical information about the study. The retrieved data were captured and analyzed using Microsoft Excel was used to help determine the sample size as well as random numbers to define the sample. SPSS 25 was also used to conduct the correlation analysis and assess the relationship between the warehouse activities and the customers’ credit notes (which are linked to their satisfaction and loyalty). The study revealed that there is a positive relationship between the use of smart-warehousing and the satisfaction and loyalty of customers.

- Description: Abstract : In the face of slowing economies globally, the construction industry faces many challenges such as socio-economic stress, resource shortages, institutional weaknesses and a general inability to respond to key issues. These have intensified and become more severe in recent years. Empirical research in supply chain management points to barriers that limit construction industries in developing countries such as South Africa. This paper aims to explore supply chain constraints in the South African construction industry. Relevant literature was reviewed and insights from 15 experienced supply chain practitioners were elicited by means of semi-structured interviews. Content analysis was employed using the ATLAS.ti (version 7) software to analyse qualitative data. Six themes emerged from the interviews, which include lack of investment in supply chains, lack of supply chain innovation process constraints, supply chain change management, supply chain collaboration, supply chain leadership, and time management. It is recommended that construction companies adopt supply chain management systems, integrated solutions, and collaborative project management tools and technologies.

Supply chain quality management : an implementation framework

- Description: Abstract: While firms across the globe compete by developing efficient and effective supply chains, it has been a daunting task integrating quality management practices in their supply chains. Researchers have made an attempt to develop conceptual models for integrating supply chain management and quality management. However, little is known about implementation of the supply chain management-quality management (SCM-QM) integration models in firms. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine the concepts of SCM and QM and propose a SCM-QM implementation framework. An extensive review of relevant literature helped to identify the dimensions of SCM and QM and those common to both. SCM-QM integration can be achieved following an agreed SCM quality standard by suppliers, internally and customers. In addition, successful implementation of the SCM-QM framework can be operationalized through procurement, internal logistics and physical distribution. The findings extend the literature on theoretical models of SCM-QM integration by providing an implementation framework. The knowledge is likely to inform regulatory agencies as well as business managers on appropriate SCM-QM implementation to attain improved quality of delivered products and services across supply chains.

- Description: Abstract: Due to constant failure in delivering the products to customers on time the defence manufacturing organization introduced the supply chain phenomenon into its operations in an attempt to improve its performance (on-time delivery). This research aims to identify if supply chain performance is affected mainly by social or technical factors and also outline which of these factors have the highest effect on the performance of supply chain. The importance of this research is that it will determine if the performance of supply chain is affected by technical or social factors and also how the organization is affected by these factors. This research employed a case study and made use of both qualitative and quantitative data to allow for data triangulation in order to minimize biasness and increase the credibility of the results. The findings indicate that supply chain performance is affected by both social factors and technical factors, however the impact of these factors on both supply chain and the organization is different. In summary, this research will provide insight to the factors that affect the performance of supply chain and accordingly provide methods to minimize or eliminate these factors and therefore reducing their effect on supply chain and the organization.

- Description: Abstract: This paper presents the role of a secondary co-operative in the supply of an input key to delivering a product by a co-operative movement focused on manufacturing. This study bases its focus on sewing co-operatives and uses the supply of fabric as an example that relates to a proposed secondary co-operative that would be established within a township community of South Africa to supply fabric to clothing manufacturing cooperatives. A literature grid specifying references and concepts used to arrive at the suggested model is also presented on the paper. Secondary co-operatives in supply chain management are key to inter-cooperation of manufacturing co-operatives and to sourcing quality inputs at reasonable rates. In conclusion it is specified that empirical studies could be done to improve and develop further the suggested model of supply chain management through a secondary co-operative structure. Policy makers in the areas of reindustrialization through co-operatives especially in emerging countries may consider secondary supply cooperatives to be drivers of inter co-operative cooperation and as providers of strategic operational support to the manufacturing co-operative movement particularly in clothing manufacturing which is a sector confronted with cheap clothing imports from low cost producing countries.

- Description: Abstract: The objective was to investigate the extent of the use of total quality management (TQM) practices in a supply chain of a petrochemical organisation. TQM is a method by which management and employees can become involved in the continuous improvement of the production of goods and services. It is a combination of quality and management tools aimed at increasing business and reducing losses due to wasteful practices. The study was carried out in the petrochemical industry, which is of economic significance to the country. An existing TQM questionnaire was used and a total of 200 employees were targeted. The questionnaire had a seven-factor structure with acceptable Cronbach Alpha co-efficients. Overall, there was a significant number of employees who agree that total quality management is not practiced within their work areas and leading to a high number of quality related customer complaints. Management and employees are encouraged to be visibly involved in the development of a TQM transformation. TQM requires support from management, long-term strategic decision-making and motivated personnel.
