- Description: Abstract: This study aimed at assessing the sustainability of the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system through assessing how the seven elements of service quality affects the commuters’ satisfaction with the service rendered by the Rea Vaya system, and the impact on its sustainability. The rationale for this assessment was to determine whether the system will continue to operate at a low cost for its customers, offer a high quality service that retains commuters and thus, sustaining Rea Vaya’s profitability in the future. A quantitative research method was used for this study, the method allows numerical data collection and enables the study to analyse data. The use of a quantitative data collection method helped in answering the primary and secondary objectives. A questionnaire was used as a means of collecting data handed out to BRT users at selected bus stations on specific routes in Johannesburg. The target population consisted of all users of the Rea Vaya BRT system. Rea Vaya transports an average of 16 000 commuters every day (Rea Vaya, 2009). The sampling unit can be found at five of the fifty-eight Rea Vaya stations currently operational. Data analysis included getting a summary of the mass of data that will be collected and presenting the results to communicate important findings.

The study first identified the risks related to procurement, then distributed the questionnaires with 25 respondents by the employees within the public sector. Although the literature review highlighted that corruption was perceived as one of the biggest risks in procurement, all the questions relating to corruption had to be omitted from the questionnaire to prevent political distortion and fear that the respondents will not respond to the questions objectively. It is common knowledge that corruption in the form of collusion in the public sector procurement is widely affecting the ethical way of contracting for goods and services. It was found that current mitigation strategies were unable to prevent future mitigation strategies. The introduction of ethics training could provide positive results in terms of mitigating the procurement risks as employees would be sensitized to what constitutes unethical behaviour in a procurement environment. The procurement officers must take part in continuous professional development regarding proper procurement practices including ethics and values.

- Description: Abstract: The purpose of this assignment is to measure the extent that Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system has delivered transport services to commuters on the phase 1A route connecting Soweto (Thokoza Park station) and Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) (Ellispark station). Five service quality dimensions were used to measure the level of service provided by Rea Vaya namely tangibles, empathy, assurance, responsiveness and reliability. Positivism was used as the research philosophy, which is a scientific method that tests theories using structured and measurable methods such as a structured questionnaire and observations. Quantitative data was collected for this research, in a form of a structured questionnaire and observation. 100 questionnaires were issued to commuters to complete at Thokoza park station and all 100 were collected, added to this, a stopwatch was used to measure time frequencies between bus arrivals. Excel software was used to analyse the data collected into meaningful information. This research indicates that of the five service quality dimensions only two dimensions are totally satisfied namely empathy and tangibles. The other three dimensions namely assurance, reliability and responsiveness were partially satisfied. Therefore, Rea Vaya management should make attempts in improving the element of partially satisfied dimensions. More specifically, management needs to empower officials at the stations with authority to make decisions regarding commuter grievances, better scheduling methods to solve overcrowding during peak periods and information devices both busses and stations needs to be maintained and kept serviceable. Currently Rea Vaya ridership has decreased from 35 000 commuters daily in 2010 to 16 000 commuters daily showing a decline in ridership overtime. This paints a picture that indicates that the commuters are not satisfied with the service provided by Rea Vaya resulting in using alternative transport modes. When the Rea Vaya managers fix the abovementioned findings, it is expected that the ridership should gradually increase, perhaps to even above planned carrying capacity of 75 000 commuters daily.

- Description: Abstract: One of the great challenges facing the South African economy is to increase the number and variety of viable and sustainable economic enterprises, it is central to government’s economic policy that it promotes the development of emerging economic enterprises and diversifies the ownership, size and geographic location of those enterprises .Cooperative development is one of the interventions that the South African government can use, it can also uplift indigenous people who were neglected or excluded by the apartheid system to play a role in the economic development of the nation. Cooperatives have being receiving the support from government, but there is very little success. The study used qualitative research methods, data was gathered from 200 cooperative that were situated in Limpopo and Gauteng province, through focused group interview, one on one interviews and observations. Secondary data was gathered through an extensive literature review. The research recommends that responsible authorities need to engage in Continuous trainings, workshops and seminars for communities, cooperative members and government officials and also employ cooperative managers in order for them to strengthen cooperatives and also develop them successfully.
