As South Africa begins putting mechanisms in place to get the inclusive education process in motion, it is important to examine all facets that are vital to the success of this venture. This study explores the experiences of the learners with learning difficulties in an inclusive schooling environment. In most of the townships, learners with learning difficulties have remained in the mainstream or inclusive learning environment. The respondents were six students who are doing Grade six at Sekhutlong Primary School. The case study design was used to explore what their experiences are - both in the school and family setting. The results of the study suggest that while the learners were aware of their learning difficulties they seemed unaware that they were in an inclusive or mainstream learning environment. Their educational experience did not differ from their counterparts who had no learning difficulties. Their emotional experience in terms of learning was not so positive. The study suggests that a lot of work needs to be done by way of preparing all key stakeholders for implementation of inclusive education.
