Abstract

The goal of the study is to explore the social risk factors in the relapse and readmission of
discharged psychiatric patients.
Objectives stemming from the goal are:
1. To provide an overview of social risk factors from literature that may influence the frequency of
relapse and readmission of psychiatric patients.
2. To design an interview schedule according to identified social risk factors.
3. To collect qualitative data from purposively selected respondent-groups consisting of
readmitted psychiatric patients and their families.
4. To interpret, arrive at conclusions and to make recommendations regarding strategies for
improved family management of discharged psychiatric patients.
