- Popular DJ Sbu breaks UJ Reads attendance records! More than 1500 students congregated to listen to their favourite radio presenter, DJ Sbu, during the UJ Reads week on all four UJ campuses. The Leadership 2020 book– The Beginning compiled by Sibusiso Leope, popularly known as DJ Sbu - was selected as the UJ Reads book for the second semester. Past attendance records for this project were between 200 and 300, with this one surpassing it with more than five times the normal figures. DJ Sbu is an Engineering Faculty Alumnus of the UJ who studied at DFC, and so it was a double honour for DFC Library to host him as an author and award winning role model to the students who attended the discussion. DJ Sbu graduated in 1996 in electrical engineering at the then TWR. His main message, which is also reflected in his book, is that young people need to stand up and follow their dreams. In doing so, they need to have guts, “Chutzpa” and confidence. He emphasised that the other ingredients for success are humility, knowledge, family orientation and providing solutions for societal challenges or problems. DJ Sbu - hosts the Sound Revival show on Metro FM and he appears on the most popular game show in the country, Friends Like These. He owns a number of businesses under the Blaque Gemini Group where he is the Co-founder and Executive Chairman. He is the Founder and Chairman of SLEF, the Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation which has given away 147 bursaries to pupils throughout 300 schools nationwide.
