Abstract
Security personnel across the globe are by the nature of their calling trained to protect the human
rights of the citizens and refugees that live within their sovereign geo-political environment.
However, in the Nigerian setting, the security institutions, who are paid to deliver the above
societal need of man have a large number of those personnel who undermine the human rights of
the masses. This study focuses on the role of security men in implementing the Covid 19
lockdown administration. It used key informant interviews (KIIs) as well as focus group
discussions to sample the opinion of selected respondents across each geo-political zones of
Nigeria, on how security agencies implemented the lockdown administration. The study found
that it was not only the human rights of the living that was undermined in the streets and borders
of different states within Nigeria but also, a number of the dead were denied access to their
cultural rights of being buried in their ancestral homes during the period of Covid 19 lockdown.
The study therefore recommends increased professional retraining and attitudinal change
campaign, from the highest to lowest echelon of the security forces in Nigeria.
