Abstract
This article makes an analysis of illustrations found in some of South African children's books. It has been noted that illustrations play a pivotal role in children's literature. They are regarded as what attracts children to books and they also add value to the story as they supplement the text. They assist young readers with comprehending the story better or even faster, as they can give crucial details about the setting, characters, and the contents of the story. Relatable illustrations have the potential to accelerate the acquisition of necessary reading skills. Other factors such as inclusivity, representation, identity, and others are discussed based on the selected images. In this analysis a discussion of problematic and commendable illustrations is done.
