Abstract
Purpose: The study was based on the assumption that the adoption of emerging technologies in construction can improve workforce management. This study examined the factors driving the adoption of emerging digital technologies for effective construction workforce management from a South African construction industry perspective.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The research adopted a quantitative approach using a questionnaire survey administered to selected construction organisations in South Africa. Purposive sampling method was used to select 360 out of which 182 participants completed the survey electronically.The data were then analysed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics.
Research Limitation: Despite its contribution to the existing discourse on construction digitalisation, the study's findings are limited by its methodological approach.
Findings: The study found that organisational and technological factors play significant roles in the use of digital technologies to improve construction workforce management. These include organisational innovativeness, top management support, technological competence, and compatibility.
Practical Implication: The study's findings offer practical insights into the factors shaping construction organisations' decisions to employ emerging technologies to improve their workforce management.
Social Implication: The study's findings will benefit construction professionals and industry regulatory bodies in shaping policies that require construction organisations to use digital technologies to improve worker performance.
Originality / Value: The study contributes to the existing discourse on workforce management in the digitalisation era from the South African construction perspective, an aspect that has received little attention in the existing construction digitalisation discourse.
