Abstract
The investigation of the inhibitive impact of an environmentally friendly copolymer as a corrosion inhibitor, namely “Polyethylene glycol L-proline (PEGLP)” on corrosion of mild steel exposed to a 1 M HCL solution, took place using the Polarization and impedance spectroscopy techniques. Different concentrations of inhibitors (100–800 ppm) were selected to study polymer composites (PEGLP) impact inhibition efficiency. Based on the open circuit potential evaluation, the results revealed that mild steel is less prone to corrosion attack when exposed to 1 M HCl solution. The susceptibility and the underlying mechanistic information on corrosion were investigated further by potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and EIS. Through Tafel plots, potentiodynamic polarization measurement outcomes reveal that PEGLP was a mixed-type inhibitor. In every case, electrochemical studies reaffirm the evaluation based on the impact of inhibitor dosage on the corrosion rate and inhibition due to creating an adsorptive layer on mild steel dived in 1 M HCl.
