Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine the use of some poetic techniques in Jabulani ‘Sjava’ Hadebe’s
music. The study of poetic aspects in the African indigenous languages of South Africa has been
done predominantly on poetry and very less on other genres such as music. Jabulani Hadebe, also
known as ‘Sjava’, has received local and international recognition for his music, but there seems
to be no scholarly works done on his craft. A study is done in this paper to investigate the use of
linking and alliteration, and how these poetic aspects are artistically used to beautify the
presentation of Hadebe’s music.
