Abstract
Uku Vuswa; the reawakening of matter and spirit as sculptural meditation on the
intertwined process of healing, remembrance, and reclamation. My practice engages the
afterlife of dispossession, tracing how materials marked by neglect or abandonment may
be called back into presence. Working with discarded and natural elements –wood, rusted
wire and found objects. I reawake the spiritual agency embedded within matter. In doing
so, I pose a challenge to colonial ontology that seek to separate spirit from material,
rendering the natural world passive and exploitable. Each work becomes both a material
of resurrection and a belief return, embodying the process of naming and redressing
dispossession. In this showcase, sculpture transcends form to become a container of
spirit, a tactile conversation between the visible and the unseen.
