Abstract
The workplace environment is rapidly changing because of emerging technologies and
access to the internet. It is indisputable that training is the propeller of productivity in
the workplace. The fact that technical education in South Africa started in the railway
sector is an indication that the entire transport sector values the importance of
workplace training (Mathebula, Poya & Makwela, 2014).This study focuses on the use
of blended learning teaching to improve workplace training in the transport sector. A
questionnaire was mailed to Senior Technical Training Officers (STTO), drivers, train
control officers, metro guards, yard officials and training managers in the transport
sector to measure their views with respect to the use of blended learning in the
transport sector in South African. The respondents see blended learning as satisfying
and helps with time management. Reliable in connectivity and experience in using the
learning could go a long way in ensuring the right blend of learning. The South African
transport environment has always conducted workplace training in order to provide
their employees with the necessary knowledge to do the job. To meet the demand of
the modern world, the transport industry has also adopted Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) supported training. According to Susilawati,
(2015:8) the revolution in ICT has changed teaching and learning development and
delivery. We are at the cusp of a new era where blended training must take priority
over traditional training systems and this study seeks to also gather ideas for best
practices when delivering and implementing blended learning. In this paper, the author
will graphically demonstrate how leaning and development managers benefits from
investing in a reliable connectivity and quality leaner management system that
responds to the needs of workplace learning.
