Abstract
Government has a mandate to provide public services and goods to citizens in an effective and efficient manner. Effective service delivery is important in growing the economy and improving the living standards of citizens. However, service delivery in South Africa has been marred by many challenges. Factors such as government’s lack of infrastructure and resources, as well the reliance on paper-based processes have contributed to the government’s inability to improve service delivery.
E-government deployment has been seen as an efficient instrument to improve the quality of information and services offered to citizens. Additionally, e-government deployment has the potential to enable better service delivery and transform government’s service delivery into one that is citizen-oriented whilst enhancing citizens’ standard of living.
This research evaluated the benefits of implementing e-government projects through public-private partnerships and how this may improve service delivery in the public sector. The partnership project between the Department of Home Affairs and the banking sector was used to evaluate the benefits, success and risk factors of public-private partnerships.
A quantitative research method was chosen for this study and a questionnaire was used to collect data.
