Abstract
Digital technology has rapidly transformed business landscapes globally, and South Africa is no exception. This study explores the multifaceted adoption and impact of digital technology in South Africa’s manufacturing sector, examining its impact, challenges, and opportunities.
The study employs a qualitative approach, using interviews to garner comprehensive insights. Key findings reveal that digital technology has significantly enhanced operational efficiency, customer engagement, and market reach for manufacturing businesses in South Africa. However, challenges such as digital infrastructure disparities, cybersecurity threats, and skill shortages persist.
The literature delves into multiple studies of global companies, illustrating successful digital transformation strategies and their outcomes. It also identifies critical success factors such as leadership commitment, strategic alignment, and flexible adaptation to technological advancements.
Furthermore, the research highlights the socioeconomic implications of digital technology adoption, including its role in promoting inclusive growth and addressing economic inequalities. It also explores policy recommendations to foster a conducive environment for digital innovation and entrepreneurship.
In summary, this dissertation contributes to understanding how digital technology is reshaping the South African manufacturing sector, offering insights into both the transformative potential and the challenges associated with its adoption. Lastly, additional research is suggested to further explore emerging technologies and their implications for the evolving business landscape in South Africa.
