A reversible ground source heat pump, coupled to a municipality water reticulation
system, is investigated as an alternative to conventional air source systems for space
heating and cooling. The investigation was executed through the development of
analytical models that were used for the design of a ground-coupled reversible heat
pump and a conventional, also reversible air source system. The models were verified
with experimental measurements. The results of the models and measurements
indicate that ground source systems are a cost effective alternative.
