Abstract
Abstract
This study focuses on identifying the elements of internal structure in Ntuli’s poems from his collections “Amangwevu” (1986) and “Imvunge yemvelo” (1972), with special attention to the stylistic techniques he employs on moulding his poems, such as imagery, other stylistic devices, and idiomatic expressions.
The study is divided into six sub-divisions, which are from Chapter 1 to Chapter 6:
Chapter 1 introduces the study with special reference to the background and aim of the study, scope of the study, significance of the study, research methodology and definition of concepts.
Chapter 2 discusses the significance of theory in research work and stylistic theory as well as the synergy between poetry and stylistic theory.
Chapter 3 discusses literature review of existing studies on this linguistic study and sources to be used as well as the research methodology to constitute this research work.
Chapter 4 describes imagery in Ntuli’s poetry; figures of speech that ascertain the use of imagery are identified, analysed and discussed.
In Chapter 5 figures of speech and idiomatic expressions are identified, analysed, and discussed.
Chapter 6 is a concluding chapter which provides a summary of the study as well as recommendations.
