Abstract
The good, the bad, the ugly: the use of artificial intelligence leading up, during, and after an election: an African perspective
It is well known that artificial intelligence (hereafter referred to as “AI”) has embedded itself into practically every field or industry. These industries have applied AI in different ways. AI has been an important factor in many employment fields since about 2010. The positive thing that employers should do is employ AI to do “physically hard, dirty and unhealthy jobs”. This would contribute to create a healthy working environment for the human employees. As part of the research a closer look will be taken at how the laws in different African countries are applied to the employment of AI leading up to, during and after the elections. It will be established whether African countries have laws that can cater to this kind of AI. And if they do not, what are the available suggestions? In additions to the aim set out above, this paper also seeks to provide insights on how various Africa countries have employed it in their latest elections. A brief overview of past elections as well as the democratic processes in these countries will be discussed. The detailed impact (advantages and disadvantages) of AI will be discussed later in the paper.
