Abstract
This exploratory qualitative study was guided by the broad research question ―How is hope storied or narrated by black South African emerging adults?‖ Three participants‘ narratives of hope were collected and analysed through narrative inquiry (NI). These three narratives were contextualised within Clandinin and Connelly‘s (2000) three-dimensional NI space of temporality, sociality and place. The contextualisation included the public narratives (such as apartheid) that shaped each participant‘s narrative. The participants‘ narratives of hope revealed that, for them, hope is a multifaceted experience.
