Abstract
Since it was declared a national emergency, the COVID-19 pandemic has become a worldwide concern that has impacted every country, both developed and developing, badly. The sheer presence of this current COVID-19 epidemic puts the components of sustainability, namely economic, social, political, and environmental, at jeopardy. While COVID-19 has its own impact on these dimensions, it also has an impact on other elements inside the nations, including South Africa. The present COVID-19 epidemic has had socioeconomic ramifications for the country of South Africa, which is already dealing with socioeconomic issues. As a result of the socioeconomic consequences of COVID-19, delivery within municipalities is hampered. This is owing to the president of South Africa's efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 throughout the country and municipalities.
The research suggests that lockdown measures taken by the country did more harm than good because of all the negative implications that are associated with COVID-
19. Ekurhuleni municipalities has the responsibility towards the residents within communities in which they reside, however the municipality of Ekurhuleni along with other municipalities were less prepared for the pandemic such as COVID-19. The municipality had to reprioritise budgets and certain services as they were deemed very essential during this COVID-19 pandemic.
The study covers a review of socio-economic implications of COVID-19 and its implications service delivery in South Africa: a case study of Ekurhuleni municipality. A mixed method approach was employed for this study to effectively collect and analyse the data needed. The research problem that informs this study is the socio- economic implications of COVID-19 and how they hamper service delivery at the municipality of Ekurhuleni. In examining the problem, the study identified and explored the socio-economic implications caused by COVID-19 at the municipality, Investigated how these socio-economic implications affect service delivery, explored the municipality’s response to minimise the socio-economic implications of covid19 and their effectiveness on service delivery.
According to the study's recommendations, the municipality of Ekurhuleni should redeploy its resources. Due to current consumer problems such as unemployment and

inability to pay for municipal services, the municipality is having difficulty collecting money through taxes. Therefore, Ekurhuleni Municipality should search for innovative ways to boost liquidity in the short term, such as divesting non-essential services or selling non-financial assets to help with cash flow demands. The municipality should also maintain constant communication with its inhabitants on the developments and their implications for the municipality's financial picture. The municipality of Ekurhuleni should also devise a method for identifying financially distressed homes and removing them from the payment list. Rather than withholding payment as a form of retaliation, residents should always pay their bills and report bad service delivery. The agriculture industry should also be supported by local governments.
Hopefully, this research will serve as a springboard for future research, policy options, and planning for local governments and academic institutions on the socio-economic consequences of COVID-19 and its impact on service delivery.
