Against the preceding discussion and the problem statement, the purpose of
this research can be formulated as follows:
To explore and describe the views and the needs of township secondary
school pupils in grade 12 with regard to school guidance.
To interpret these views and needs and to incorporate them from an
educational psychological perspective in the development of guidelines
for policy makers, principals and teachers with regard to the practical
implementation of guidance in township secondary schools.
