Abstract
Spatial inequality remains a pressing issue in many rural areas of South Africa, where access to essential services varies dramatically depending on geographic location. This study explores the significant effects of spatial inequality on the provision of services in eNyezane, a rural community in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It seeks to investigate how disparities in geographic access to vital services impact the quality and delivery of critical public services, including healthcare, education, and sanitation. The study examines the factors that lead to spatial disparity in eNyezane, including socioeconomic position, education levels, and historical background. It also investigates the issues encountered by rural people in South Africa, driven by historical and socioeconomic variables that lead to service delivery inequities. The research aims to propose effective solutions to address the found geographical inequities and improve service delivery in eNyezane. Based on the findings, the study recommends adopting realistic solutions that incorporate community participation and evidence-based tactics. These recommendations will help policymakers and stakeholders develop a more inclusive approach to public service delivery that acknowledges and works to address the inequalities experienced by rural communities. Specifically, the study suggests that policymakers prioritize investments in infrastructure and services in marginalized rural areas and engage with local communities to develop context-specific solutions.
