Abstract
When bad news regarding a parents’ child is communicated to them by a teacher, it is essential that this process of communication is done effectively. This will ensure further collaboration between parents and teachers and encourage effective support for the child experiencing learning difficulties. When a teacher communicates bad news untactfully it can result in serious emotional implications for all role-players; teacher, parent, and child, consequently, ending in poor collaboration and unsuccessful support of the child experiencing learning difficulties. The aim of this study was to explore and describe parents’ experiences during a parent-teacher consultation when their child’s possible learning difficulty was initially revealed to them by a teacher.
