Abstract
The research investigates and optimizes asset management and change management in a smart grid, during a technology telecommunications migration project. The project focuses on the migration of legacy radio technology to a digital IP based technology. Through employing mixed method approaches, the research focused on obtain the new migrated system participant (Engineers, Technologist and Network Planner)’s perception and comments through open-ended survey questions as well as the secondary data from the Management System. The research evidence showed divergence with higher user perception of the new system’s useability and the obtained low reliability score of Mean Time Between Failure of 2.4 hours/failure. The human factors proved to be the contributing factor to system instability due to training and communications from management. The research recommends the use of integrated Asset and Change Management through tool such as Configuration Management Database, and Predictive maintenance tool and adopting change management tool such as Awareness Desire Knowledge Reinforcement And Kotter’s 8 Steps to improve skills, training and management alignment.
