Abstract
M.Comm.
The purpose of this study is firstly to take a current real case scenario
(in this instance Grootvlei Mine) and evaluate how well the statutory
provisions and Government intervention actually fared in a real life
situation.
Secondly to look at the management process behind Mining
Rehabilitation Funds and determine its effectiveness in the real life
situation.
This is achieved by adopting a two-tier approach, in that the external
environment which comprises legislation and regulations, as well as
Government's role, is first analyzed. Thereafter the internal environment, more specifically the organization's process structure, is
put up for scrutiny.
The final aim is to propose constructive alternative approaches and
strategies that will improve the effectiveness of management in the
legislative- and organizational environments. The objective would be
to ultimately have a ready-made process structure that could be
applicable to most rehabilitation scenarios.
It is trusted that this project will provide a simple practical guide,
promoting speedy and effective application of a comprehensive
programme assisting and guiding Mines and Mining Houses on
rehabilitation, with the ideal of leaving a sound environment to
future generations after mineral resources have been extracted.
