Abstract
In South Africa, institutions of higher education have faced various challenges in recent
years. These include issues of funding needy students and a digital divide between
students who can afford internet access and those who cannot, as well as exploring
the possibility of reorganising the curriculum. Mindfulness relates to being ‘present in
the moment’, non-judgemental and cognisant of present situations. Leaders of higher
education institutions in South Africa could use mindfulness during the process of
strategy development and implementation.
