The Greater Pretoria Metropolitan Area (hereafter Greater Pretoria) covers approximately 130 000 hectares of land and includes areas such as Soshanguve, Klip\Kruisfontein, Akasia, Pretoria, Eersterust, Atteridgeville, Mamelodi, Laudium and Centurion (see Map 1, p. 8)(GPMC Status Quo, 1997 : 25). Greater Pretoria shares many of the problems of most post-apartheid cities in South Africa. Significant disparities exist between "white" and "black", not only with regard to economic developed areas (job opportunities), but also regarding socio-economic development (education levels, income levels, etc.).
