Abstract
Tipping is a widely known social norm in South Africa, particularly in Johannesburg. Some customers and news reporters have noted the differences in how different tipping practices are managed in restaurants. The study was inspired by the news reports on waitrons' dissatisfaction with the management of the tipping practice in the restaurants where they worked and sought to determine the impact of managing tipping practices on work relationships.
