Abstract:The ubiquitous nature of mobile devices and connectivity in the 21st century creates many possibilities, particularly in education. In spite of the benefits of mobile devices mentioned by many studies, there is little formal research, particularly in South African education, on how learners are actually experiencing the use of mobile devices specifically in Technology Education. This study examines how Technology learners at a well-resourced South African high school experience the use of mobile devices in their learning. The study takes the form of a qualitative case study and uses questionnaire and focus interviews data collected from 84 participants. Interpretation of the data reveals five themes that include engagement, joy, excitement, discouragement and productivity. Implications of these themes are also discussed.
