Abstract
In their fight for free and decolonised education, students across South Africa's universities started the #FeesMustFall movement in response to the tuition fee increase which had been announced by universities. The #FeesMustFall movement led to a nation-wide closure of operations across universities in South Africa. As such, this study evaluated the leadership challenges in private higher education institutions in a post #FeesMustFall era. The #FeesMustFall movement took place in the public HEI’s, thus research has not been conducted on the impact (direct or indirect) and outcomes of the movement on private higher education institutions. Through the use of a qualitative research approach, semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from two private higher education institutions based in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
