Abstract
This research report explores language teachers' experience of professional development in using ICT in the classroom. Worldwide and nationally, teachers are attending various forms of professional development. Effective professional development is essential for teachers to improve their skills, learners' skills, and overall experience. Current professional development could be more effective in motivating teachers to implement what they have learnt. Teachers' time and their need for development is not taken into consideration. Professional development should motivate teachers, help them build confidence, improve their abilities, and further develop their self-directed learning development. The researcher used qualitative research to conduct the research. The researcher determined participants using convenient sampling. Four teachers from public schools in the Western Cape were randomly selected to participate in semi-structured interviews. The researcher presented teachers with a suggested professional development on using ICT in the language classroom. Teachers accessed the professional development via a Google site. The data analysis indicated that the teachers were more receptive to professional development when their needs, time, and context were considered.
