Abstract
Abstract : This study is conducted to analyse the impact of change amongst lectures and students at the University of Johannesburg Academic Development centre. Their perceptions will be examined using Lean Six Sigma tools which is aimed to establish an understanding of whether lecturers and students adapting. Data was collected using qualitative approach, where respondents were interviewed through face to face method. It was found that most of the students were not ready for the transfer of their programmes from the Soweto Campus to Doorfontein Campus. This was especially so in terms of transport and accommodation arrangements in the case of the students. When they applied for acceptance into the University in 2011, they were under the impression that they would be learning at the Soweto Campus. The lecturers were found to have been equally not ready for the changes. This also meant that they would not be available for consultation by students on some days. Overall, therefore, the changes were viewed as having had a negative impact on the academic project with respect to the affected programmes. Amongst other recommendations, the paper suggests that if the need for change arises in future, then UJ management need to firstly consult widely with the stakeholders who will be affected by the change in order to get the buy-in of such stakeholders. Secondly, UJ management would also need to ensure the availability of resources to facilitate seamless transition to the desired state of change.
