Abstract
This paper investigates the resilience demonstrated by IT auditors in the South African
banking sector amidst the unparalleled challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employing a literature review methodology, we analyse the individual-level challenges
faced by IT auditors, including psychological and emotional stress, skill adaptation,
training needs, and vulnerabilities to cybercrime. The study delves into the strategies
adopted by IT auditors and organizations to fortify resilience during these testing times.
Notably, initiatives such as emotional support, skills development, and improved
communication played a critical role in navigating this crisis successfully. Furthermore,
the research highlights the adaptability of skills, competencies, and job satisfaction
among IT auditors, showcasing their resilience and ability to uphold audit quality during
the rapid transition to remote work. These findings emphasize the significance of
adaptability, continual learning, and organizational support in empowering IT auditors
to endure and thrive amidst evolving circumstances within the banking sector.
