The supply of geotourism in South Africa probably is the best in the world. Experts from all over the world come here to study our rich geological and palaeontological heritage. However, South Africa still needs to realise its full tourism potential in the geotourism sector. Many of the world-class geoheritage sites in this country suffer from neglect due to a lack of funding or concern. Subsequently it is poorly marketed and sometimes inaccessible. If South Africa is to cash in on the geotourism industry, these problems need to be addressed in order to make the public aware of their unique geoheritage in order to successfully market and develop the geotourism sector.
