Switch-mode power supplies are currently constructed by interconnecting various discrete components. There are certain drawbacks with the discrete interconnection method and as is
the case with consumer electronics functional blocks of the converter must be constructed as
a whole before improvements at various levels may be expected. The focus of this thesis is the functional integration of high power output filters for switchmode power supplies. Various capacitor technologies are discussed and investigated for applicability in integrated filters. The overall response of the prototype filters which has constructed are compared to that of equivalent conventional discrete filters. a General Modelling scheme is presented which is applicable to a wide range of structures and independent of excitation to facilitate improved design and prediction of the behaviour of the structures.
