Quality Control Circles (QCCs) have become an essential mechanism for improving product quality, minimising costs, and increasing productivity in the manufacturing industry. Nevertheless, its implementation in the South African construction sector, especially in Gauteng, has been markedly sluggish. The problem addressed by this study is the limited adoption of QCCs within Gauteng's construction industry, hindering potential improvements in quality and efficiency. This study sought to examine the obstacles impeding the execution of QCCs in construction projects within Gauteng. A quantitative methodology was utilised, involving a systematic literature review and a questionnaire survey conducted among construction experts in the area. Data was collected through structured questionnaires distributed to a sample of 110 construction professionals in Gauteng, selected using a purposive sampling strategy. The collected data was analysed using descriptive, Cronbach’s Alpha and correlation. The results identified multiple significant obstacles impeding QCC implementation. The factors included a deficiency in awareness and comprehension of QCCs, insufficient backing from top management, poor training and development opportunities, and reluctance to organisational change. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by specifically identifying the barriers to QCC adoption within the South African construction context, a sector where such quality improvement initiatives have been under-researched. The implications of these findings suggest that overcoming these obstacles is crucial for enhancing project quality, reducing waste, and improving overall productivity within the Gauteng construction sector. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that construction organisations in Gauteng invest in awareness campaigns and training programs to improve understanding of QCC principles and benefits. Furthermore, securing strong commitment and active support from top management is essential. Organisations should also foster a culture of continuous improvement and provide adequate resources for the establishment and maintenance of QCC initiatives. Addressing resistance to change through effective communication and employee involvement is also crucial for successful implementation.
