Abstract
1.1 INTRODUCTION The aim of this research study was to understand which facets describe the development of educational psychologists‟ professional identities. An individual‟s identity is formed by the integration of their abilities, beliefs, interests and childhood influences (Richie, Meca, Mandroza, Schwartz, Hardy, Zamboanga, Weisskirch, Kim, Whitbourne, Ham & Lee, 2013: 416). Fearon (1999:2) confirms that people‟s identities are their personal characteristics and attributes that cannot be linked to social categories, and indicates that these form the basis of their selfrespect and dignity. Throughout a person‟s life they set goals, and adhere to the values and examples of others with whom they identify.
