The point of departure with this research project is the realization that education in South Africa has undergone fundamental changes in line with the democratic principles enshrined in the South African Constitution. This called for the implementation of new systems and continuous change management in order to enhance teaching and learning in our schools. One such system is the Integrated Quality Management System or IQMS. The implementation of these systems usually creates feelings of discomfort and even dissonance with educators that if not managed properly can severely affect educator morale, hence the need to investigate the impact on educator morale and performance measurement. The research was prompted by questions such as:
• What are the perceptions of educators with regard to the implementation of the IQMS and the way it impacts on their work lives?
• What are the perceptions of educators with regard to performance measurement and how does it affect their morale?
• How competent is school managers in implementing systemic changes effectively in schools?
