As a result of the growing demand for community involvement and -
participation and issues, which are also part of the ruling government's
policy, a survey has been conducted to identify the obstacles impairing
involvement and participation in community development.
The goal of the study has been to identify the obstacles for community
involvement and participation with the aim of using socio theatre in an
attempt to overcome these.
In order to achieve the above goal the following objectives have been
identified
a) To gather information by means of a literature study on :
involvement and participation in community
development, as well as the obstacles for involvement
and participation.
sociotheatre as aid in enhancing involvement and
participation.
b) Conducting structured interviews with members of the
sample group with the aim to identify the obstacles for
involvement and participation in community development.
c) Conducting structured interviews with key persons to
identify the obstacles for involvement and participation.
An exploratory cross-sectional research design has been used for the
purpose of the study.
The following recommendations have been made :
* That a strategy and model for enhancing involvement and
participation are designed by using the phases of
involvement and participation as a framework. The
objectives and characteristics of community development
should be used as a foundation for the strategy and the
model.
* That sociotheatre is used as an aid to enhance involvement
and participation.
