Abstract
In South Africa Homeopathy, as part of complementary medicine (CM), has not been integrated into public healthcare. A common perception exists that CM is for the ‘worried well’ and regardless of the accuracy of the perception, it has far-reaching implications, both professionally and politically. Homeopathic practitioners may make false assumptions about who potential patients are and will continue to be restricted to private practice, jostling for space in affluent urban areas. Without data, policy decisions will be ill-guided, and it will be difficult to come to a true understanding of the potential role of the homeopathic practitioner in the South African healthcare system...
