Abstract
South Africa is experiencing a constant decline in electricity production as shown by decrease of Energy Availability Factor (EAF) over the years. South Africa is implementing a Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program (REIPPP) projected to meet the current electricity demand. The aim of this research study is to investigate Critical Success Factors (CSF) in the construction of wind energy projects in South Africa. Although there is limited research on past similar studies on wind energy construction projects, an extensive literature study was conducted on renewable energy projects to determine CSFs. The aim of this study is to understand interdependencies, relationships and cause and effect factors on project success by applying a combination of fuzzy logic and Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) methods. The results of this study concluded Project Environmental factors as a CSF with direct impact on Project Technical Support, Project Communication and Project Environmental Support.
