Abstract
This investigation is undertaken to understand the challenges experienced by beginner teachers and the part of the school management team (SMT) in supporting them. Although beginner teachers are expected to be ready for what is happening in the classroom, the findings in the literature have proved that beginner teachers often enter the classroom lacking in basic classroom management skills such as classroom discipline, time management, and other essential skills for accomplishing most administrative tasks. This study evaluates the challenges of beginner teachers and the role of the school management team in supporting them.
A qualitative research approach is undertaken to include structured interviews with eight beginner teachers. Participants were in their first five years of their teaching experience. The findings reveal that some beginner teachers do not get enough support from the SMT concerning their professional adjustment within the teaching profession.
