Abstract
vi ABSTRACT In this dissertation, a study is conducted on the challenges and possibilities of a girl child as depicted in selected Zulu novels. These challenges and possibilities are discussed based on, firstly, the upbringing of a girl child, wherein different parenting styles are examined to see if they have positive or negative effects on the girl child, the communal area where the girl child grows, is also taken into consideration and the effects of poverty as a socio-economic issue to her. Secondly, the abuse of the girl child and, how it negatively impacts her, the consequences of this abuse, the role of the justice system and finally, education as a solution are also discussed...
