Abstract
South Africa is continuously experiencing a high number of service delivery protests with recurring allegations that leaders have not delivered on the promised services to communities. This study aimed to explore the experiences of community members and leaders in relation to service delivery. One of the South African opposition parties stated in Parliament that the country experiences more than 30 service delivery protests every day. The bewailed poor service delivery seems to be a result of the gap between leaders and community members and constitutes an impediment to community development. The objective of this study was then to explore the nature of the gap between leadership and community development and how it can be bridged.
