Abstract
ISO 9001:2015 establishes comprehensive standards for a QMS, widely adopted across diverse sectors, including the metal and automotive industries. This standard necessitates that senior management develop a coherent framework to sustain the QMS and ensure employees comprehend their responsibilities. Considering the pivotal role of the metal industry in South Africa's economic growth, this study examines the adoption and application of ISO 9001:2015 standards within the metal industries.
This study aims to assess how ISO 9001:2015 influences organisational performance, identify key success factors for its implementation, and analyse the benefits of adopting a QMS. A purposive sampling technique was employed to select participants, consisting of professionals in the metal industry and consulting firms. A quantitative methodology was adopted, involving structured questionnaires to collect primary data, supplemented by secondary data sources. Seventy-five questionnaires were distributed, achieving a 100% response rate. Data were analysed using SPSS, with both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques applied to identify patterns and relationships.
The findings indicate that implementing ISO 9001:2015 in the metal industry leads to cost savings, increased customer loyalty, enhanced employee performance, higher productivity, improved production processes, and market expansion. Key performance indicators (KPIs) for successful implementation include customer satisfaction, feedback and complaint management systems, leadership involvement, continuous improvement, and on-time delivery. Critical success factors identified include top management commitment, continuous improvement, product conformity, supplier cooperation, employee involvement, operational efficiency, and robust productivity facilities.
