Abstract
Transportation infrastructure is a key enabler for economic growth in both developed and developing countries. Socio-economic issues of a community are addressed by ensuring the high-quality of its bus rapid transit (BRT) system. The notion is that BRT enhances the quality of life, health, effectiveness and safety of the people living in these communities or countries. South African transportation still faces quite a few challenges in the form of a lack of public transport accessibility in rural areas, low ridership, equity imbalances and traffic congestion. Meanwhile BRT is intended to improve transport operations, mobility and travel time.
