Abstract
The study focused on the effectiveness of the implementation of the Integrated Waste Management Plan of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Solid Waste Management is an integral part of environmental management. Ineffective SolidWaste Management Practices have adverse negative health implications. Moreover, the type of waste treatment option chosen has an impact on the environment. South Africa uses a three-tier system and in terms of SWM implementation of these policies takes place at local level. Moreover, in accordance to the National Waste Management Strategy, local government have to draft their own Integrated Waste Management Plans in line with the SWM needs of the municipality.
