Abstract
The testis of L. capensis is a paired, lengthened organ.
The lobes of both testes are joined by seminiferous
tubules to form a vas deferens which terminates in the
urogenital papilla, posterior to the anus. The gonads,
surrounded by a tunica albuginea consists histologically
of lobules and interstitial tissue. Spermatogenesis
occurs in cysts situated within the lobules.
The annual reproductive cycle of the testis of L. capensis
consists of five distinguishable phases, namely ripening,
pre-spawning, spawning, post-spawning and resting phase.
An increase in temperature and daylight length initiates.
