Abstract
Healthcare systems, beyond delivering health services, play a pivotal role in shaping national identities. Their research is thus crucial. This study, anchored on the resilience framework published by the World Health Organization, provides an analysis of the potential effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered cloud computing on strengthening the resilience of healthcare systems. By utilising the resilience framework, the study has focused on four core healthcare building blocks: (1) governance, (2) financing, (3) resources and (4) service delivery. In the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to strengthen healthcare resilience has become increasingly evident, necessitating innovative technological solutions. This study addresses this critical need by exploring the synergistic relationship between AI and cloud computing and their collective contribution to healthcare resilience.
Adopting a qualitative research methodology and utilising purposive and snowball sampling techniques, the study gathered insights from experts in healthcare informatics. The thematic analysis of the findings reveals the multifaceted impact of AI-powered cloud computing across the various dimensions of healthcare resilience.
The study's findings demonstrate that AI-powered cloud computing can play a significant role in transforming the healthcare system. The findings culminated in the development of a framework that identifies key focal points of AI-powered cloud computing and aligns them with strategies to improve healthcare resilience. Unified healthcare record systems, remote care systems, advanced healthcare data analytics systems, and healthcare surveillance systems were among the focal points. This framework can be used as a practical guide for healthcare leaders, policymakers, and technology developers, providing actionable insights on how to effectively integrate AI-powered cloud computing into healthcare systems.
This study adds to the existing body of knowledge on healthcare resilience by providing a nuanced understanding of the role of AI-powered cloud computing in this domain. The research fills critical research gaps, offers theoretical contributions, and has practical implications. The study paves the way for more resilient, efficient, and equitable healthcare systems that are ready to face future challenges by highlighting the transformative potential of AI-powered cloud computing in healthcare.
