Abstract
Imidazolium quaternized poly (2, 6 dimethyl – 1, 4 phenylene oxide) (ImPPO) blended with functionalized Zeolitic Imidazole Framework (ZIF-8) (ImPPO/ZIF-8) as an anionic exchange membrane (AEM) were prepared for direct methanol alkaline fuel cell application. The ImPPO/ZIF-8 blended membranes were prepared by the solution casting method. ImPPO was prepared by dissolving BrPPO in NMP at 80 ºC to make a 15 wt. %, then 2-methylimidazole was added to the mixture until it dissolved. To get ImPPO/0, 1, 3 and 5% ZIF-8, different ratios of ZIF-8 (0, 1, 3 and 5%) were added to the ImPPO solution. To complete the quaternization the membranes were soaked in the 2-methylimidazole solution for 24 h. The membranes were then soaked in 1 M KOH for 24 h to change the membranes from Br- form to OH- form. Finally, the membranes were washed repeatedly with de-ionized water to remove any residual KOH and stored dry for further studies...
